In 1876, march 7th, the United States Patents Office gave to Alexandre Graham Bell the Patent Number 174.465 to "The method of, and equipament to, voice telegraphic transmition or any other sound... originated by electric waves, in a shape similar to the air vibration of the speach or any other sound".
